Megabass was founded in the late 80s by Yuki Ito when he was in his 20s. Located in Hamamatsu, Japan, where Mr. Ito is originally from, Megabass has become a formidable force in the fishing industry of Japan, especially in the past 10 years. It established itself as a high-end plastic lure company with the introduction of the break-through bait POP-X in 1996 and in the same year branched out into rods and reels when the Destroyer rod series was released. Both innovative series instantly changed the status quo of the fishing tackle industry of Japan.

Megabass’s uniqueness comes from an absolute commitment to design innovation and quality manufacturing, both of which have been backed by Mr. Ito’s talents as an angler, designer and as CEO of the company. Pick up any Megabass product and the unparalleled attention to detail and design is obvious from finely crafted and life-like lure designs to carefully selected blanks and exquisitely balanced fishing reels.

Megabass is located in Hamamatsu which is about halfway between Tokyo and Osaka/Kyoto area, and is well-know for the concentration of world class manufacturers such as Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki to name a few. Many believe that Hamamatsu represents the heart of Japanese manufacturing. No wonder Megabass is there.

Frogleys Offshore released Megabass onto the Australian market in 2006 and has continually searched the Megabass design vault for new products to meet customer demands. The rods, introduced in 2008 were closely followed by a carefully selected range of reels.

The lures are a proved performer on the tournament scene with many wins by top anglers using Megabass patterns but there are a range of styles and sizes which will appeal to both the inshore and offshore angler across top-water sinking and diving styles.
